MUKKALA PULUSU

mukkala pulusu



Ingredients-

Onion – 1
Tomato – 2
Drumstick – 1
Vegetables ( brinjal / carrot / ladies finger / sweet potato / pumpkin )
Green chilli – 1 or 2
Turmeric – 1 tsp
Chilli powder – 1 tsp
Besan / rice flour – 1 tbsp
Tamarind – large lemon size
Jaggery – 2 tbsp
Oil – 2 tsp
Salt – as required
Coriander leaves – few

For seasoning

Mustard – 1 ½  tsp
Jeera- 1 tsp
Red chilli – ½
Urad dal (split) – 1 tsp
Curry leaves – few


Method –
1.       Soak tamarind in water for some time and extract the pulp
2.       Wash the vegetables and cut into small pieces, slit the green chilli
 3.       Heat oil in a vessel. Add mustard. When it splutters, add urad dal, red chilli, jeera and curry leaves. 
4.       Add onion, green chilli, vegetables and fry for some time.
 5.       Add tomato, turmeric and salt and fry for another 5 min.
 6.       Add tamarind pulp and 2 cups of water. Cover with a lid and boil till raw flavour of tamarind reduces.
 7.       Take besan in a bowl and add some water. Mix well so that there are no lumps.
8.       Add jaggery and chilli powder along with the besan paste to the boiling pulusu.
9.       Boil for some more time. Switch off stove when done and sprinkle coriander leaves on top.
10.   Serve hot with rice

Recipe Tips -
We can use besan or rice flour or a mix of both as this is required for thickening the pulusu.
